Congressman Boccieri: It's Time Everyone Recognize Women
Should Have an Equal Voice in Our Economic, Political
Life
In response to a defamatory statement in a Medina County
mailer produced by the Medina County Republican
Executive Committee against Congresswoman Betty Sutton
(D-Copley), Democratic Congressman John Boccieri
(D-Alliance) condemned the local GOP Party Chair for
his disregard of women.
"The Medina County Republican Party Leadership needs to
step into the 21st Century. Advising their followers to
"...take Betty Sutton out of the House and put her back
in the kitchen" is not only offensive to women
everywhere, but disregards the advancement of women's
rights.
"I was proud to stand up for pay equity as a
representative of both women and men in our district,
just as I was proud to serve in Iraq alongside our brave
men and women in the military. As a father, I hope my
three daughters grow up in a world where women are
recognized for their achievements and respected for who
they are and what they’ve done. I recognize the
important role women play in the workplace; the
sacrifices they make at home and the great contributions
they make in our society.
"I hope that Congresswoman Sutton, who continues to make
important contributions to growing jobs in our region
and advancing a clean energy policy, will serve as a
role model for young women across our district.
"I condemn the remarks of Medina County GOP Chairman
Bill Heck because I know they do not represent the views
of women and men in Medina County, which I am proud to
serve alongside Congresswoman Betty Sutton.
"I stand by Congresswoman Betty Sutton and women around
our district and Ohio when I urge the GOP to take back
their regressive comments against women."
